And you all thought the giant roach was bad. Just be glad I didn't take a picture of this.
Well, today my worst Vegas fear came true. I found a scorpion in our house. M and I were eating dinner and she asked for more juice. I got up, walked into the kitchen and found myself staring straight at a scorpion on the wall above my stove. Right where I had been cooking dinner only moments before. It was about two inches in total length and just sitting there. I froze. I mean seriously, how many of you would have known what to do?
I knew I shouldn't freak out because I didn't want to scare M, so after probably a full minute of just standing there, I turned around, grabbed the phone and called my friend Lindsay. I was seriously on the verge of crying so when she answered I tried to keep my voice calm and said, "Hey, so I have a scorpion in my house, will Todd come and kill it?" She kind of laughed and said she's send him right over. Waiting the whole two minutes for him to get here was torture. I didn't tell M and was trying to keep her out of the kitchen, while trying to make sure the thing didn't run down the wall behind the stove, even then, what would I have done about that?
Finally Todd got here, I let him in and just pointed. I asked if he wanted some spray or something and he replied "No, I think I'll just do this," took his shoe off and smashed it as hard as possible. There was an audible crunch. He then politely took his shoe outside to get rid of it somewhere I wouldn't see. Then he invited us to go hang out at their house for ice cream, Lindsay even offered to let us sleep over if I was to creeped out to go home. While a very tempting offer, I decided I should be an adult and deal with it.
So now my house has been completely resprayed at all doors and windows and a very "urgent" message has been left with our spray company who had better be here tomorrow to take care of this.
Thank goodness for awesome friends!

The Walgreen's in Idaho falls had a display of UV flashlights . . . "Scorpion Detection" seemed to be the main selling point . . . and I was pretty confused. I am still confused, as it seems they are not invisible in regular lighting? Anyway - I guess reason #2 winter can be a good thing?
Ali, I thought you were in Utah now? No? You need to fill us in! I would have died to find a scorpion anywhere...gross. You are lucky to have a neighbor to come a get it :)
AND i really like the new layout of the blog.
Kim - my friend was telling me about this. Apparently scorpions glow under UV lights. She said growing up they used to go 'Scorpion Hunting' with a UV light and a really sharp stick.
Val - I just sent you an email.
Yucky Yucky Yucky! Way to go Todd! You are the hero of the year! Yuck!
I am so creeped out for you.
I hope that I never, ever have a similar experience. I'm glad it's over and you never see another.
