Extended Birthday!

Alison turned 28 on Jan. 25th!

The day before we got together with her brothers, Sam and Andy, and went skiing to Snowbird. Unfortunately, it was snowing a heavy, wet snow all day. Snow itself while skiing isn't too bad. Wet snow is kind of a bummer. But, without a doubt, the worst skiing condition I can think of is flat-light. Flat light refers to some phenomenon that occurs when it is overcast and the world is covered in perfectly white snow. Essentially, the landscape loses all of its shadows and takes on an eerie grey color. Goggles help, a little. But you often can't tell a mountain from a cliff until you hit/fall into/off it. If you weren't trying to move quickly over varied terrain, flat light might be kind of cool, like you were on some foreign marshmallow planet. Some people can deal, but it really sucks the fun out of skiing for me! So we spent some time slurping hot chocolate in the lodge in between a few long runs.

After that, we met up with Kacey and Ross and we all went to Tucanos. I know, I know, it sounds like we go to Tucanos for every occasion. What it really is, though, is that we go to Tucanos any time we can get someone else to pay for it or when we have a 2-fer-1 coupon. They send us coupons the month of our birthdays, so we make use . And (even better) Alison's parents foot the bill on this excursion. At least we hope they pay Sam back!

Her birthday falling on a Sunday was kind of a bummer, but we will just extend the celebration an extra day and make a three day birthday out of it.
